Notes:
Please note: Sometimes I couldn’t write down the instructions while knitting and had to remember what I did. These instructions make sense to me but probably not to everybody else out there. So don’t hesitate to ask me any questions you have while knitting this gorgeous hat.
Gauge: 36 sts, 48 rows in stockinette
Cast on 144 sts for the cuff.
Row 1-20: +ktbl, p, ktbl+; repeat from + to +
Row 21: fold the hem, pick up sts from cast-on-edge, ktbl or p each st together with corresponding picked-up st
Row 22: +ktbl, p, ktbl, make 1 purl+; repeat from + to + -> incr. to 192 sts
k1tbl -> move beginning of round 1 st to the left
Row 23-77: chart A of Cookie A’s Pomatomus-Pattern 2,5 times, 16 times per row
In an attempt to hide the decreases even better than Kristy did in her ingenious adaptation of Cookie A's pattern, I came up with the following:
Row 78: (first decrease row) +work first 11 sts as charted, slip next marker 1 st to the right (first pattern repeat consists of only 11 sts), k3 tog tbl, work sts to next marker as set+; repeat from + to +
Row 79-86: +k2 tog tbl, work sts as set to marker, slip marker, work first 11 sts of chart+; repeat from + to +
Row 87: (row 21 of the chart) +k3 tog tbl (remove all markers in your way), YO, 5x {ktbl, p}, place marker+; repeat from + to +
-> decrease to 96 sts (8 full repeats of 12 sts)
Row 88: +work first 11 sts as charted, place marker, k3 tog tbl, work 10 sts as set, place marker+; repeat from + to +
Row 89-97: +work first 11 sts of chart, slip marker, k2tog, work sts as set+; repeat from + to +
Row 98: +YO, 5x {ktbl, p}, place marker, k3 tog tbl+; repeat from + to +
Next rows: +k2 tog tbl, work sts as set to marker+; repeat from + to + until 8 sts remain, bind off, enjoy!
I knit matching gloves and a matching scarf and just love them.
